GAME START UP/COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
Type "ROULETTE" to run the program once it is installed on your hard disk.
Two command line switches can be used to alter the game if desired.
/S - Example usage: "ROULETTE /S". This will start the game without
the sound blaster interface. Use this switch if the game locks up
your computer. The problem may be with the sound blaster interface,
this will run the game without the sound blaster voice and sound effects.
/A - Example usage: "ROULETTE /A". This will start the game so that it
runs without auxillary animation enabled. This may be necessary on
some 386 computers with relatively slow processor speeds. If the roulette
wheel animation is jerky, your computer may not have enough processor
power to handle all animation simultaneously. If this is the case, you
should use the "/A" command line switch when running this program. NOTE:
with the "/A" command line switch activated, the roulette wheel video will
not appear in the small TV on the upper right of your screen. This switch
applies only to the registered version of the program since the shareware
version is shipped without the auxillary graphics files.
ADDITIONAL GRAPHICS
1. The registered version of this game contains additional graphics not
available in the shareware version. Your computer must have EXPANDED
memory allocated before these additional graphics can be used. The
added graphics consists of a delayed motion playback of a
magnified view of the roulette roulette wheel as it spins. This
magnified view shows a detailed portion of the numbers on the wheel and
provides an accurate representation of the the wheel and it's numbers.
The small wheel shown on the screen next to the dealer provides a visual
simulation of each spin, but may not always represent the actual
relationship of container colors to ball placement as can be seen in
the magnified view of the wheel. This view is seen in the small TV
at the top right of the screen.
2. You must have at least a 386 processor an a minimum of 2 mega bytes
of memory to use these graphics. The first time you run Ultimate
Roulette, you will receive a message if the game CANNOT detect EXPANDED
memory. If you do not receive the no EXPANDED memory detected message,
your computer is set up to use the additional graphics and no
system modifications are necessary. If you do receive this message,
the game will function, but without the additional graphics until you
modify your config.sys file to allow your extended memory to be allocated
as expanded memory when needed. NOTE: This message will only appear
the the FIRST time you run the registered version of this game.
3. You can use an ASCII editor to modify your config.sys file if necessary.
EDIT supplied with DOS 5 or 6 is a good choice for this purpose. You
need to locate your config.sys file. With your editor, find the line
that contains "EMM386.EXE". EMM386.EXE may have a switch after it that
reads "NOEMS". If this is the case, change "EMM386.EXE NOEMS" to read
"EMM386.EXE RAM". The RAM switch allows your computer to allocate
expanded memory as necessary from your extra RAM. Once this change
has been made, reboot your computer and the game should now display
the additional graphics.
SOUND BLASTER SUPPORT
The registered version of this game supports sound blaster voice and
sound effects if the optional voice pack for the game is purchased.
Your computer must have a Sound Blaster or 100% compatible system for
the sounds to fuction. The sounds supplied with the sound pack are
digitized speech for the words seen in the dealer's talk balloons,
and crowd background noises. When the ball falls, the ball bouncing
sound effects are also provided. NOTE: Sound blaster voice files
ARE NOT available for the talk balloons occasionally seen for
computer generated players.
GAME PLAY
1. An initial credits screen shows with information that scrolls by, this
can be bypassed by pushing any key or mouse button while the credits are
rolling.
2. The game can be played by yourself or with up to 4 other "COMPUTER
GENERATED" players, just follow the prompts. You can see these other
player's thoughts or talk balloons if selected through the EFFECTS menu.
3. The game is disigned to use a mouse. The keyboard will be
used if no mouse is present. If the keyboard is being used, the
arrow keys are used to place the hand pointer and ENTER is used
to select an item. The speed of the hand pointer for keyboard
use can be changed to faster movement by pressing the + key or
slower movement by pressing the - key. NOTE: The speed of the
hand pointer is only relevant when placing bets on the large bet
layout at the bottom of the screen or on the SIMULATIONS page.
The hand pointer movement is initially set to the fastest speed.
4. The mouse keys and keyboard are set up as follows.
a. Left mouse button.
(1) Selects menu items (keyboard equivalent = ENTER.)
(2) Answers "YES" to any "YES/NO" query.
b. Right mouse button. (keyboard equivalent = ESCAPE)
(1) Spins the wheel if in the main menu.
(2) Will move the hand pointer from the big number
layout for selecting bets back up to the main bet menu.
(3) Answers "NO" to any "YES/NO" query.
PLACING BETS
1. Choose either INSIDE BET or OUTSIDE BET from the menu.
a. Select one of the bet choices that appears on the
next menu. A big number layout will appear at the bottom of
the screen and the hand pointer will move to the big number layout.
Move the hand pointer to the bet area on which you want to place a
bet. Push the left mouse button or Enter on the keyboard to select
this bet. An Amount menu will appear that allows you to place 1 to
5 chips on the bet selected.
b. If you need a point out of the type bets available,
push the "SHOW BETS" button. A yellow maker with an "M" in
the middle will point out any bet in the category chosen.
c. To get back to the MAIN BET menu, you may.
1. Push ESCAPE.
2. Push the RIGHT MOUSE button.
3. Move the hand pointer towards the MAIN BET
MENU. It will automatically transpose to the horizontal hand and
point to the last selection you chose on the MAIN BET MENU.
2. REPEAT BET: This item is implemented as a talk icon
originating from "U". If the last spin had a bet or bets placed,
U will provide the user with a choice as shown below. Exception,
if one or more of the previous bets was a winner and the user
chose the PRESS BET option, the repeat bets talk icon will not
appear.
1. REPEAT BETS
OR
2. SELECT NEW
a. If choice 1 is selected, the same bets that played
last time will be active to play again. If choice 2 is selected,
all bets are reinitialized and any new bets desired must be
selected before the next spin.
b. If choice 1 is selected, bets may be added to the
existing bets. All bets may still be deleted entirely with the
NO BETS button available on the LARGE BET LAYOUT.
c. When the REPEAT BETS icon appears, one of the
choices must be made before the game can continue. Choose one of
the selections by moving the hand pointer to the desired line and
press the left mouse button or push the number key associated
with the choice desired. If choice number 1 is desired, it can
also be selected by pushing the right mouse button.
3. If a previous bet was a winner and the "PRESS BETS" option was
selected, those bets will play again UNLESS.
a. If the "NO BETS" button is selected on the large bet
layout after the PRESS BETS option, it is assumed that all bets
are to be reset. In this case the money in the pressed bet(s)
that represents your winnings from the previous spin is returned
to you and your "purse" is readjusted. A message informing you
of this is displayed on the large TV.
b. If the "SIMULATIONS" menu choice is selected while a
pressed bet is still active, the winning portion of the pressed
bet(s) is returned to your purse as above. This prevents loss of
this money when a simulation is run.
EFFECTS
1. The Effects menu choice opens a sub menu with several choices.
The items on this menu are all documented as the are selected.
SIMULATIONS
1. The "SIMULATIONS" menu choice opens a sub menu with the following
choices.
WITH BETS
WITHOUT BETS
a. WITH BETS - This choice allows the player to select
the bets he/she would like to simulate. When the player has
finished placing his bets, choose "SPIN WHEEL" to start the
simulation. The simulation page is entered. A history of actual
spins completed during the game is first plotted (if any have
occurred yet). The simulated bets will be placed for the past
history of spins and the results posted. To simulate any number
of additional spins of the wheel with these bets, push the SPIN
SIMULATIONS button and follow the prompts. Once the simulated
number of spins has completed, it is necessary to reselect the
SPIN SIMULATIONS button again if another round of simulated spins
is desired. If a large number of simulated spins with bets are
used, the simulation can take a long time to complete. The
SIMULATION can be aborted by pushing "ANY KEY". When the simula-
tion page is EXITED back to the main game, the bets you selected
for the simulation will still be visible on the large number
layout at the bottom of the screen. These bets are not active
but are still visible as a reminder of the bets that were used in
the simulation. Any bets for the next spin of the wheel must be
made before the SPIN WHEEL selection is chosen.
b. WITHOUT BETS: - This allows use of the simulation page
with out posting simulated bets. The actual bets placed so far
for the game are posted and may be seen by pressing the "INSIDE"
or "OUTSIDE" button on the top half of the page.
NOTE: The "SIMULATIONS" menu choice on the main menu can be
aborted before selecting "WITH BETS" OR "WITHOUT BETS" by pushing
"ESCAPE".
EUROPEAN WHEEL
1. When the European Wheel option is selected, the 00 is eliminated
from the table and the Large Bet area. This effects the odds on
some bets. A table of the bet odds with and without the European
wheel set can be seen by selecting SIMULATIONS from the main menu.
SURRENDER
1. When the Surrender option is selected, any 1 to 1 payoff wager
will lose only 1/2 its bet amount if the ball lands on a green
number.
SET CHIP VALUE
1. When the Set Chip Value option is selected, the value of one chip
can be altered from $1.00 to $100.00. This allows bets to be placed
up to $500.
QUIT
1. SAVING THE GAME - When the game is quit, all relevant
game information and a history of up to 100 ball drops are saved.
MISCELLANEOUS
1. Help - A short help screen can be accessed for either the
main game or the simulations by pushing the F1 key.
2. BOSS Key - Push the "B" key during game play and the
screen will blank except for a "C:\>" prompt at the top of the
screen. Push the SPACE or ESCAPE Key to restore the game or
push the "B" key again to exit the game. NOTE: If the BOSS key
is pressed while running a simulation, the game will be exited.
Game information is saved before the exit.
3. A flashing marker is placed on the winning number after
the spin. This marker is the same size as a stack of 5 chips.
4. The left most player will not randomly show a talk or thought
balloon. This was done so that the large TV screen is not
interrupted with this talk balloon.
5. A summary of outside bets won is displayed on the big
TV after each spin.
6. Yes/No answers can be selected by moving the pointer to the
applicable choice with the mouse and pushing the left mouse
button to select.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Memory requirements
Windows 95 users should not have to be concerned with memory require-
ments since Windows 95 can take care of this automatically.
If you are NOT using Windows 95, the following information may apply.
Most of these games require 570K of free RAM to function. If your
computer has more than 1 Mega byte of RAM, the memory requirement
for most games will be reduced if EXPANDED memory is enabled.
Expanded memory can be made available through your config.sys file.
You must have an extended memory manager (EMM386.EXE or equivalent).
The command line switch "RAM" must follow EMM386.EXE. If you currently
have the command line switch "NOEMS" following EMM386.EXE, you can
replace "NOEMS" with "RAM" to make expanded memory available.
You can determine how much free RAM is available on your system if you
are running DOS 5 or 6. When your computer boots up, type the following
at the command line "MEM /C" and press enter. Information will scroll
by then stop. Look for the line that says "LARGEST EXECECUTABLE PROGRAM
SIZE XXX K". The value in XXX is the amount of free RAM you have
available to run DOS programs. If this value is below 570 K, your
system can probably be optimized by loading some programs such as DOS,
HARD DISK COMPRESSION, MOUSE DRIVERS, CD-ROM DRIVERS, ETC. into high
memory. You may be able to run the DOS program MEMMAKER.EXE, to help
you optimize your system. Refer to your DOS manual for more information.
